Brigham Young and Utah

Brigham Young was a Mormon and the Successor as President of the Church. In the year 1847, Brigham Young arranged the trip to Utah at April the 5th. Until all Latter-day Saints were there, twenty years were over. All in all were they 70.000 Mormons.

The purpose of the Mormon was to find a place for his group where nobody lived before. Utah was at this time a part of Mexico but nobody lived there so it was perfect for the Mormons.

At July the 24th in the same year, the first group of Mormons arrived at Salt Lake City. It was the group with Brigham Young. In the days after the arrival, Young made a plan how to build a new village. He wanted to construct a temple. In a little while, they built a few villages with schools, churches, farms and houses. They even made a system to bring water at their villages. After the Mexican-American War in the year 1848, Utah was a part of the USA and the people there built big cities like St. George, Provo and Fillmore. After that, they formed a petition and the people called the state “Deseret”. The area included not only the place of Utah today, it also included eight other states. Moreover many people were against a petition, because they didn’t want that such a big place is handled by Mormons. The people at Washington were very askance. In the year 1857 the myth accrue that there are rebel’s in Utah. So James Buchanan sent his troops to them to make that Young wouldn’t be the Governor. James wanted that Alfred Cumming is the Governor of Utah. Before the troops came, Young evacuated Utah and didn’t do anything to stop Cumming. Because of the decision of Mr. Buchanan, 120 Pioneers died. So Cumming became the Governor, but most of the people of Utah thought that Young is the real Governor.
In the years after the change, there were a few wars against the natives. Since the 20th century, Utah is a favoured place to make holidays, because of the national parcs and other things.
